La versione di latino! Croce e delizia di studenti e insegnanti. Spesso si afferma che uno dei motivi per studiare latino (e greco) è che si tratta di una formidabile ginnastica mentale (e sembra che Marc Zuckerberg, oltre che un esperto informatico, fosse un genietto in latino e greco…). Raramente però ci si sofferma sul fatto che le strategie per studiare queste due materie possono variare enormemente da persona a persona.
Nei nostri incontri di assistenza personalizzata abbiamo potuto constatare che gli studenti che hanno difficoltà con le versioni di latino e greco, non riescono a mantenere la concentrazione perché, in realtà, non sanno su che cosa concentrarsi, rallentano la lettura, si fissano su ogni parola…
il risultato è che quando arrivano con la lettura alla fine della versione o del periodo hanno dimenticato l’inizio e non riescono a mantenere una visione d’insieme, il che fa salire la tensione/noia con conseguente, inevitabile, deconcentrazione.
I traduttori “eccellenti” seguono una strategia “percettiva” completamente diversa: leggono velocemente – come se eseguissero una scansione – i periodi interi isolando mentalmente i mattoncini da cui partire (soggetto, verbo, complemento, ecc.) e cominciando la traduzione da questi. In maniera simile a quello che succede a chi va bene in matematica, utilizzano una sorta di “schermo mentale” su cui dispongono gli oggetti da recuperare e combinare in seguito. In questo modo il lavoro di traduzione diventa simile a quello di ricostruzione di un puzzle, in cui progressivamente tutti i pezzi andranno a comporre il senso compiuto delle frasi e dell’intera versione.
Senza un tipo di strategia di questo tipo diventa difficile, se non impossibile, eseguire un buon lavoro… Come fare allora per aiutare chi ne è sfornito?
Ecco il metodo che stiamo sperimentando con successo negli incontri di assistenza individuale.
- Leggi velocemente il testo da tradurre;
- evidenzia le parti del discorso da cui partire (i “mattoncini”) con colori diversi. L’uso del colore riattiva l’emisfero destro del cervello (quello che presiede alle immagini e alla visione d’insieme);
- trascrivi su un foglio o – ancora meglio – su dei cartoncini (tipo post it) le parti del discorso che comincerai a tradurre e prova le diverse combinazioni a seconda del senso compiuto che possono avere;
- chiudi gli occhi e rivedi con la mente l’intero processo. Puoi immaginare una lavagna (bianca o nera o lo sfondo che prefisci) su cui andrai a riporre gli elementi della versione da tradurre, colorandoli e combinandoli come hai fatto nella realtà.
Attenzione: una volta che ti sarai abituato a questo processo, il tuo cervello comincerà a “colorare” in automatico le parti da isolare combinandole velocemente. Potrai fare tutto a mente con estrema velocità e molta più sicurezza.
